Having a summer job

IT Job

Most students have nothing to do during the summer when there’s no school. If they are at the appropriate age you might as well ask your kid to look for a summer job. The positives outweigh the negatives in so many ways. Surely they would love to have some free time but sleeping in and sitting in front of the computer all day long isn’t exactly the best way to spend your free time. They might as well make a little contribution to the family budget or earn something for themselves. Besides even if you have a summer job you will still have plenty of time to go out or play games. It will teach you some discipline, respect and will also force you to establish some sort of a regime when it comes to your daily routines. Not to mention that there is this specific feeling when you earn some money. It gives you a sense of accomplishment and dismisses the thought that you are just a leech. So depending on where you live you might have different options for a summer job. But most of them are pretty common and are not hard to do at all. Even if you require some training you should be just fine.

Customer service jobs can give you a lot of experience

Customer serviceMost young folks at the age of 17 or 18 usually look to work at a bar or a café. They join as waiters or bartenders. The one thing that connects these two positions is the fact that you will be in the customer service business. While many people look for something else when it comes to a career choice there is nothing wrong with working with clients for a summer. Actually studies have shown that it is extremely useful for young people to spend at least some time serving people because it teaches them a lot. After this period you will probably start appreciating the work which people who serve you do. Dealing with unhappy and restless customers all day long will improve your patience and will increase your boiling point. This is because you can never get mad at your clients because the customer is always right. You will also learn how to not be clumsy because running around with a tray full of bottles and glasses all day long will do just that for you. You might also improve your skills in calculus which will help you in the future. Not to mention that you will meet plenty of people because you will be working with them and this way great new friendships can be formed. You will also improve in:

  • Communication
  • Devotion
  • Being organised
  • Politeness

Now working at a construction site might not be a pleasant option but many boys prefer doing it. What makes it even tougher is the fact that you are better off getting some serious training prior to starting because safety is a big issue at these sites. If you are looking for something physical but less dangerous you might want to check the listings of removal companies. This is an excellent way to earn money and work in a friendly environment. Some relocation companies might need extra pairs of hands during the summer and this is where you come. Your work will involve packaging and loading of all sorts of furniture. You will be required to lift and tow stuff but you will also be supplied with good equipment so that you do not hurt yourself in any way. The pay is usually pretty good and this can turn into a future possibility when it comes to selecting a career path. Don’t underestimate this opportunity. They also have vans which require drivers but you will need more than just a driver’s license. You will need a certain category and experience is perhaps going to be required for this position.

IT JobAnother great opportunity to spend the summer doing what most young people or students love is becoming a beta tester for a gaming company. Yes, this type of job is not widely popular in society but younger people who play games all day long know about it. The work is similar to what you’d expect. You play a game but you are also obligated to report bugs and other issues related to it. These are usually games which are still in development and the IT guys simply cannot check everything themselves. Somebody needs to go through the content as if they are a real user. You are told which chapter or part you have to play and what to look for in terms of errors. Once you spot something you will need to write a report on it explaining what needs to be fixed. At some point this job stops being pleasant because you don’t just play casually, you are on the lookout for bugs and you need to be focused all the time. This will drain you pretty quickly. The money isn’t a lot but the job is suitable for those who are looking to avoid working with customers and are not fans of physical work either.

This is one of the most popular jobs for younger people during the summer

And finally some young fellas will be perfectly content with babysitting. During the summer these services are much needed as most kids are off school or kindergarten and their parents are still busy at work. Teenagers are perfect for this as they can play with and relate to the toddler or the baby pretty easily. Furthermore you are not really required to do anything. If you can make sure that the child does not get hurt and is fed when needed, you can simply watch TV or play with them all day long. Explore your options and make the right choice. Having a summer job sure beats doing nothing and just spending somebody else’s money. Do what you have to and look to enjoy yourself and don’t just try to get through the day.
