Paint

Before you move to your new home, it is a good idea to do some check-ups, cleaning and other arrangements. People get busy with the actual packing and removal that they forget, for example, to clean the new place, change the locks and do some other small repairs that can affect the quality of life. Check out the following list and ensure a safe and clean stay in your new home.

Change the door locks

Before you move to the new home, first thing you should do is to change the door locks. Whether you are buying or renting, your landlord will provide you will all the keys, or at least he/she will ensure you that you have all the keys, but it is safer for you to get the new ones. You will feel safer knowing for sure that no one else has a spare key to your new space.

The clean-up

As mentioned above, many people get busy with packing their belongings that they actually forget to do some clean-up or you just don’t have enough time. You can always hire professional cleaning companies that will do the job for you. However, professional cleaners do not have specialized equipment for carpet cleaning, so you will need to find somebody else for this job. They can work on other cleaning tasks like cleaning spots and stains, polishing wood, cleaning tiled floors, blinds, etc. Some places require little or no cleaning but it is important to feel at home even though you skip this step.

Ensure the clean air

Before your removal, make sure you get the cooling and heating ducts cleaned so you rest assured the air is in the best condition possible. If you can afford the professional cleaning, do so. Your safety comes first; therefore you should have stoves and fireplaces inspected before you move in. Change the air purifying filters if there are ones and ensure healthy stay in your new place.

Don’t forget to paint

Choosing the colours you love will make your new place feel like home. Make sure the paining job is done by the time you unpack. You can paint yourself or hire professionals to do it for you, depending on your budget and time.

Small renovations

If there is a need for some small renovations, finish them before you unpack all your belongings. You will probably procrastinate later and you will have no energy to pack again and unpack… Install window treatments if you don’t have ones. Blinds and drapes will ensure you have privacy and will the home special look. So, get it done before you settle in.

Shop for new appliances

Before your removal, if your new home doesn’t include appliances perhaps you should buy new ones. Also, if you are moving yours, check if they will fit accordingly. You can also consider upgrading to newer more energy efficient appliances. Make sure you do the shopping in advance of your move, so that you install them on time.
